Overview

The Jeff Davis Parish Office of Economic Development, which also includes the Jeff Davis Parish Film Commission, collectively provides professional assistance to the current expanding businesses, as well as, prospective new business opportunities for the entire parish. The mission of the Office of Economic Development is to enhance the ability of our rural communities to develop, grow, and improve the overall quality of life by targeting financial and technical resources in areas of greatest need through activities of greatest potential. Understanding that economic development is a process, it is our intent to create opportunities, to leverage government resources, and to promote private sector development.

While the office works in tandem with the local communities in the parish, the strong suit is the continual support of the Regional Economic Development Alliances that exist throughout the five-parish area. This is achieved by engaging an aggressive, but well-balanced public/private initiative to maintain the process of economic industrial development. The overwhelming goal is to maintain Jeff Davis Parish in a state of economic readiness in both traditional and non-traditional high profile arenas.

The Office of Economic Development is complimented with the executive assistant, Ms. Tracie L. Doescher (tracie@jeffdavis.org). She works in tandem with the Executive Director, Marion Fox, in order to provide hands-on assistance to existing and expanding businesses throughout the parish and offers advanced professional advisement in the pursuit of marketing, management, state and federal programs, and other elements associated with economic development processes. The staff also offers direct stewardship to newly arriving or expanded businesses to accelerate regulatory review for zoning, floodplain management, and wetland determination, corp. of engineers, and wildlife and fisheries. The Office of Economic Development, which is sponsored by the City of Jennings, Jeff Davis Tourism and the Town of Welsh and is proud of its alliances with local, regional, and statewide affiliations. These include the Jeff Davis Parish Business Alliance, the Chamber Southwest out of Lake Charles, the Southwest Partnership for Economic Development, the Economic Development Network, IMCAL Regional Planning Agency, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Ag & Forestry, and the Department of Transportation and Development.

The Office of Economic Development will continue its mission to introduce Jeff Davis Parish to prospective tenants, as well as, maintaining the business development series, and the introduction of new processes and new techniques for a business community.
