The SPARC is a new cultural attraction in development by the Louisiana Oil and Gas Museum Foundation which will feature and promote several of the assets of Southwest Louisiana in one modern, attractive location. Located in Jennings, Louisiana on Interstate 10, this complex will not be your typical history or art museum. The effort will bring together the dynamic aspects of energy, art, environment and tourism.
It will include a state-of-the-art interactive learning center on the history of oil and gas in Louisiana and explore the fascinating future world’s energy market. While preserving the local history and culture, it sets the visitor’s sites to the next generation of diverse energy research, development, production, consumption and conservation.
Another jewel of the region to be featured is the Zigler Art Museum which is one of the finest art collections in the south. By showcasing the collection, guests will be treated to beautiful pieces of rare, fine art to enhance their learning experience.
The Jeff Davis Tourism Commission will serve as a promotional hub for all of Louisiana. Located in AREA 64 of the complex, staff will assist guests in planning their visit through Louisiana. A business and convention center and an outdoor entertainment facility will also be developed to attract and serve large groups. Tourism is a critical component to the state’s economic plan and the SPARC will play an integral role in directing new dollars to local economies.
The SPARC will also feature a wetlands center and a live alligator habitat to demonstrate the beauty and value of South Louisiana’s other natural resources. The exhibit will show the function that the earth and environment play in South Louisiana and in the production of various forms of energy. It will also emphasize the critical need to protect, preserve and restore this unique ecosystem.
The Jeff Davis Economic Development Commission will also be headquartered in the complex and continue to direct all efforts to attract new business and industries to the region. Efforts are already underway to “sparc” the growth of a high tech industry for South Louisiana at the complex.
The LOGIC Hub is a venture initiated by the Jeff Davis Economic Development Commission in conjunction with private industry to establish a remote electronic data storage facility to serve corporations around the world. Future plans for the LOGIC Hub include development of a world class energy research park. These partnerships and initiatives will assist in ensuring a sustainable future for The SPARC.
The SPARC will have a lasting, positive impact on this region. It provides an attraction that meets very diverse interests-a perfect respite during a long drive or great outing for a day trip. This will be a place that offers an enjoyable learning experience for everyone while expanding and diversifying the regional economy.
